Welcome!

Inspired by McKenney's and Reeves' new book, Conducting Educational Design Research, a conference on Design Based Research will take place on May 23, 2012 at the University of Twente in The Netherlands!
Design based research (DBR) as a new eclectic branch of science combines theory and practice, laboratory and reality, experiment and intervention, scientists and practitioners, analysis and implementation, means and ends, rigor and relevance, near and far transfer, functionalism and pragmatism, mode 1 and mode 2 knowledge production, hence research and design.
In this conference presentations will reflect upon DBR’s theoretical impetus, methodological consequences, and practical ambitions. Researchers, designers, and teachers as researchers and designers, are encouraged to participate in discussions.
The morning session will be dedicated to the theoretical and methodological foundations of design based research, through presentations and discussions by Susan McKenney, Jan van den Akker, Mike Spector, and Joke Voogt.
In the afternoon sessions different apects of DBR will be presented in cases, emphasizing the main activities encompassing DBR, analysis, design and development, evaluation, and implementation. Case presentations are prepared by colleagues from University of North Texas, University of Georgia, University of Twente, and SLO National Institute for Curriculum Development.
The conference will be closed by a plenary discussion chaired by Tom Reeves to evaluate the morning presentations and the afternoon workshops.
Jules Pieters, Chair
